The outcome of each student performance will determine those who succeed in the exam and those that did not..

For the sake of those who do not know, medicine is the most competitive and decorated course in any university in Nigeria and only the best out of those who performed well will be offered admission.

So, to be on the right track, you need a score of 260 and above in jamb for medicine.. If you score below 260 and you are apply for medicine and surgery in a top rated university, you will never be shortlisted for admission.

If you really want to join the gang of medicine students, work harder and score higher to make your dream come through.

5 Ways To Make The Best Use Of Your Time At NYSC Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), an organization set up by the Nigerian government since 1973 to ensure Nigerian students give a mandatory one-year service upon graduation, recently issued out call-up letters to certain individuals who have qualified to join the last batch for the year. However, while these individuals are much elated to get the opportunity, seeing as completing the service year entitles one to employment, a number of them are perturbed as to how to cope with the three weeks “orientation” period spent in a military-controlled boot “camp” away from family and friends. Jumia Travel, therefore, suggests 7 ways prospective youth corpers can maximize their time at the NYSC camp.

1. Join the OBS

The Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) is a great way to serve while in the camp. A very important unit of the camp, it will offer you opportunities to not only develop your editorial and media skills, you will get to know the key officers in the camp. It also gives you a measure of authority and allows you to get an exemption from some of the camp activities which you may be averse to.

2. Run a small business

You can actually make money while at the orientation camp. You can offer services such as hair dressing or laundry to others in the camp who need them for a fee or you can rent a stall at the Mami market and sell food items which most corpers need from day to day. It is a great way to hone your business skills before you are launched into the labour market.

3. Do an online course

The orientation period does not have to be all activities and socializing, you can further develop yourself on the side by registering and going through a short online course during your stay. The good thing about online learning is that it is flexible so you can actually plan it around the time that you will be leaving the camp.

4. Socialize and actually meet new people

The NYSC scheme was originally established to encourage oneness among citizens in the country and promote national unity. By sending these individuals to other states, the expectation is that they mix with people of other tribes, social and family backgrounds and learn the culture of the indigenes in the place they are posted. Rather than sticking to yourself all through the orientation process, use your spare time to actually fraternize and get to know the people in your platoon and camp as a whole. You would be surprised how many new things you will learn about Nigeria and what connections you may make for the future.

5. Start applying for jobs

The orientation period is not too early a time to start sending out your CVs to potential employers. The NYSC orientation can actually serve as an avenue for corpers to share job information and career resources, so take advantage of that and start early.

NABTEB Releases 2017 November/December Exams Results, Statistics

National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB Releases 2017 Nov/Dec November/December 2017 NBC/NTC and ANBC/ANTC Examinations Results and Statistics.

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2017 November/December NBC/NTC and ANBC/ANTC examinations held nationwide between from Monday, 6th November to Friday 8th December, 2017.

Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Prof. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, who announced the release of the results in Benin yesterday, said a total of 45,088 candidates enrolled for the examinations in 1786 centres nationwide (40,746 candidates registered for the Ordinary Craft Level, 4,342 for Master Craft Level certificate). Of the total that enrolled, 44,197 candidates sat for the examinations, comprising 40,117 NBC/NTC and 4080 ANBC/ANTC candidates, representing 98.02% of the total enrolment.

According to the examination structure, candidates enrolled for 67 trades at both Ordinary and Advanced Levels as follows: 17 Engineering Trades; 7 Construction Trades; 9 Miscellaneous Trades, and 4 Business Trades at Ordinary Craft Level while at the Master Craft Level, candidates enrolled for 12 Engineering Trades, 7 Construction Trades, 7 Miscellaneous Trades, and 4 Business Trades.

Analysis of the results further reveals that 21,159 candidates representing 52.74% of candidates that sat for the NBC/NTC examinations, obtained five (5) credits and above including English Language and Mathematics whereas, 31,369 candidates representing 78.19% scored five (5) credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics. This represents an improved performance compared to the previous year’s, 2016 November/December NBC/NTC results where 21,476 candidates representing 47.48% of candidates that sat for the examinations obtained five credits and above including English and Mathematics. Also, 33,365 candidates representing 73.77% scored five credits and above with or without English language and Mathematics.

It is important to note that out of the 10,177 candidates that sat for various trade examinations at Ordinary Level, 3,558 representing 34.96% were certified as craftsmen while 1,788 candidates, representing 47.39% of the 3,773 candidates that sat for the Advanced Level examination were certified as master craftsmen. Again, this represents an improved performance in the proportion of certified craftsmen compared to the 2016 series of the examination. In the 2016 result, out of 16, 396 candidates that sat for the trade examinations at Ordinary Level, only 4,195 candidates, representing 25.29% were certified as craftsmen; for the Advanced Level examination, 1,457 representing 39.39% of the total number of 3,699 candidates, were certified as master craftsmen.

Out of 44,197 candidates that sat for the certificate examination, only 759 candidates were involved in 1,124 incidences of examination malpractice representing 1.72% candidates. This translates to a marginal reduction from the figure of the last year, 2016 November/December certificate examinations, where 1,394 candidates representing 2.85% were involved in examination malpractice.

JAMB: What parents, candidates must not do during 2018 UTME – Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has warned parents of candidates sitting for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to stay away from Computer-Based Centres.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, gave the warning on Monday in Abuja while monitoring the Mock UTME at the Kogo and Veritas University CBT centres.
He noted that some parents had formed the habit of hanging around the centres to engage in examination malpractice, and also warned the candidates against flouting the Board’s rules.

According to him, “We urge parents to keep away from CBT centres. We are preparing people for university education, but the parents come around too often. They want their children or their wards to pass at all costs.

“This practice is not helpful because they will not follow these candidates to the lecture rooms. Lecturers and others will start taking undue advantage of such parents because they are not mature. They are not prepared for the task. I think parents should steer clear of all CBT centres and allow the children to grow .”

He further called on the UTME candidates to desist from cheating during the examination, as the board would monitor all the computers to be used.

He said that all electronic devices, such as phones, headsets, flash drives and other items, such as wristwatches and calculators, remained banned.

He said that the ban on special eyeglasses and pens also applied to supervisors and examiners.

He added, “We urge the candidates to avoid any form of malpractice or shortcut to passing the examination. You are aware that we have banned some items from going into the examination halls; we have banned special glasses, wristwatches and many other things that we are aware our candidates use for illicit activities.

“As the candidates are getting cleverer, the board is getting wiser. We have done everything possible to avoid the issue of logging out. When a student sees that the questions are difficult, he plays some pranks, remove some wires pulls out the cable. Then there is a problem. But we are going to monitor every system and if we discover that a candidate deliberately shut down a system, he will carry his cross.”

See How Non-academic staff disrupted Mock UTME at OAU

The mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was disrupted by the non- academic staff at the Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile -Ife , on Monday .

The examination , which is organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board , was aimed at allowing candidates to test their skills and level of preparedness ahead of the 2018 UTME scheduled to hold between March 9 and 17 .

It was gathered that some of the candidates had already settled down in their examination halls before the workers stormed the venues to send them out .

“They have sent us out . We were so scared when they came . Many of us had to rush out of the hall,” one of the candidates told our correspondent on the telephone .

Members of the striking unions said that “ such ( mock UTME) should not hold while we are on strike.”

Recently , a directive from the Joint Action Committee of the striking unions compelled the non - academic staff to intensify the ongoing strike in their various universities .

The JAC comprises the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities ( SSANU ) , Non - Academic Staff Union ( NASU ) and National Association of Academic Technologists ( NAAT ) .

The unions on December 4, 2017, embarked on an indefinite strike due to the alleged non - implementation of the agreements they entered into with the Federal Government in 2009 and 2017 .

They are also protesting the earned allowances of N 23 bn released by the Federal Government to the universities ’ workers around November 2017 in which the three non -teaching unions got 11 per cent.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the OAU , Mr . Biodun Olarewaju , apologised to the candidates , adding that “the issue will be resolved amicably .

JAMB Commends Conduct Of Mock Exam, Explains Why Some Candidates Did Not Partake

It has been disclosed that out of the 258,000 candidates that applied to partaek in the 2018 JAMB Mock exam held yesterday, only 211,000 candidates took part.

According to the JAMB Registrar, this was due to insufficient space to accommodate interested students in some of the computer-based centres across the nation.

He mentioned that it was not like the board could not allow all the candidates partake in the exam. However, due to the fact that centres are not evenly spread in all the states and in some states the number of candidates exceeded the nunber of facilities available in that case it is only logical for JAMB to pick just the number that the facilities within a town or state can accomodate.

The registrar said there would not be ‘mop-up’ for candidates noting that ”its either the candidates write the exam or do not do the exam”.

He experessed satisfaction over the conduct of the mock exam as out of the 602 centres being used, only six of the centres had challenges.

Similarly, the registrar said books or any reading/writing material, cameras, recorders, microphones, ear pieces, ink/pen readers, smart lenses, smart rings/jewellery, smart buttons and Bluetooth devices will not be allowed into the centres.

The registrar said the prohibition of materials is applicable to candidates, supervisors and examiners.

JAMB 2018 Mock Updates To Help Candidates In The Main Exam

The JAMB mock exam for 2018 UTME candidates has been concluded. For those that did not participate in the mock examination we want to share some important points from the experiences of candidates who participated in the mock exam.

We believe this will help you prepare adequately for the main exam which comes up on March 9th and

We advise all candidates to go through these important points and updates to help them know what is expected of them during the main exam.

For a good understanding, we have grouped the points into sub-topics as follows;

The Time And Number of Questions: Candidates are to answer 180 questions within 2 hours. There will be 60 questions in English Language, and 40 each in the other 3 subjects. You are expected to answer all questions in the 4 subjects within 2 hours.

Rough Sheet: For those that will need plain sheet for rough calculations, we learnt that in some centres, plain sheet were actually provided for candidates and they were allowed to go in with pencils. Though some candidates said they were not allowed to do this in their centres. However, we advise candidates to go to the exam with pencil and photocopies of their exam print out so they can use it for rough calculations in case JAMB fails to make such provision.

JAMB Past Questions: Many candidates confessed that they came across many past questions during the mock exam and it will likely be the same during the main exam. So we advised candidates to use the remaining days before the exam to study more JAMB Past questions.

The On-screen calculator: For candidates who will need calculator, you will not be allowed to enter the hall with any calculator. However, there will be a Calculator on the Computer Screen of every candidate.  You will find the calculator at the top right hand side of the computer. We will make a post on how to use the calculator before the exam.

CCTV Cameras: There were CCTV Cameras in the hall during the mock  exam. And it will be the same during the exam. The candidates shouldn’t be deceived. The CCTV Cameras were working. Don’t do anything that will incriminate you in any way.

There May Be A Little Delay: Just like it happened during the mock exam, the main exam may start a bit later than was stated on your exam slip. Candidates are expected to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the time on their exam sluip. But just to be in good shape even if there happens to be a little delay, we advise candidates to eat well before going and ensure they go with some cash.

You can use the comment box to let us know what else you think candidates can learn from the mock exam that will increase their chances of doing well in the main exam.

In his opening remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, thanked the Executive Governor, and visitor to the University, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD, for his listening ears and support, which made the accreditation of its programmes possible.

According to him, the University has approval to run new Departments of Engineering, Public Health, and others, because the Governor, is a research oriented scholar whose academic passion, is not deterred by the responsibilities and challenges of his office.

He maintained that the department of Optometry is a pacesetter in the University, being the first to build a lecture hall for itself, by self efforts of staff and students, as well as first, to organize an academic programme, that makes it possible for one to be a Professor and a consultant at the same time.

He said, “The pedestal we have set is high, and we can’t go low”, stating, he feels fulfilled having nurtured a department whose products are making waves all over the world.
Presenting her address, the Head of Department of Optometry, Professor (Mrs.) O.U. Amaechi, while thanking the Vice-Chancellor noted that the day marks another milestone in the lives of the inductees, and prayed the good lord that brought them this far, to open new vistas in their lives
She charged them to always strive for Excellence and Service, for which the University is known, and be good ambassadors of their Alma-mata.

In their separate Remarks, the Provost, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor Christian Aluka, the Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor O.C. Ahuama, and the President Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr Damian Echendu, challenged the new Doctors of Optometry, to abide by the oath of the profession and make honesty, Sincerity, and Uprightness their guiding principles.
While administering the oath to the inductees, the Registrar, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) Professor (Mrs.) E. B Uzodike, who is also an Alumnus of the University stated that ABSU is blessed to have Professor Uche Ikonne, who is a great planner and achiever as the Vice-Chancellor, appreciating the University management, the lecturers, staff, and parents of the graduates for all their efforts and sacrifices, to ensure a successful completion of the course by the inductees.
She advised the new (ODS’) to make the guidelines given to them their bible during their internship, and ensure they do not follow anybody for vision screening within the period except with permission, stressing that any report of misconduct will mean the intern will repeat his/her internship.
The high point of the occasion was the oath taking ceremony, and presentation of certificates to the inductees, special presentation to the Best Graduating Student (2016/2017) Dr Nnamdi E. Okore and the Best Clinical Student, Dr Chidinma U. Jibueze, as well as the Honors awards to others.

5 Ways You Can Avoid Carryovers As A Fresh Student

Do you know that as a fresh students you can avoid getting carryover no matter how many difficult courses you will pass through? if you don't know that, then kindly follow me I will show you how.

Carryovers make a lot of students feel bad about their performances and here’s why you should always avoid anything that’ll get you one.

Carryover is a common metaphor for failure in Nigerian higher institutions and you must try hard to avoid having one.
Students usually feel bad when they have a carryover in a course. Of course, this is expected because no student would like to revisit a course his colleagues have passed, so if you don't want a carry over in your academic record then kindly follow and read this article carefully.
Read: See a Teacher's Shocking Remark on a Pupil's report sheet

So below are the top 5 things you can do to avoid getting carry over.

1. Don’t skip lectures
This is one of the many reasons students score low grades in exams and continuous assessment. A student who skips lectures will most likely miss an impromptu test and write out of context in exams.
So, make sure you attend all lectures. Remember some lecturers like you to give them answers to exam questions same way they taught you in the class. If you miss such lecturer’s class, you are likely going to carry his course over.

2. Stop excessive partying
Partying and going to clubs every time could have a negative effect on your academic performance even if you are very brilliant. You don’t need to hang out with friends or party all night to enjoy yourself as a student.
And if you really do care about not having a carryover, you’ll have to cut down on partying.

3. Avoid needless confrontation with your lecturer
Always try your best to avoid confrontation with your lecturers, try to find amicable ways of communicating your point of view without being rude or condescending.
You should not engage them in any argument that will make you look like you are trying to outshine them.

4. Start proper preparation
Poor preparation automatically translates to a poor performance in an examination. As a student, who does not want a carryover in his academic record, you need to study hard to get good grades in your exams and continuous assessment. Don’t forget that proper preparation they say prevent poor performance.

5. Avoid behaviors that upset your lecturer
Nigerian lecturers have rules and they hate to see student violate those rules. Violating a lecturer’s set rules could get you registered in his black book. For instance, many lecturers don’t like to see their students chewing, sleeping or side-talking when they are teaching.
